Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Via Catholic, a sole proprietorship based in Texas, United States (“Via”, “we”) for the Via Catholic app and this website. By downloading or using Via, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Via.
1. Who may use Via
You must be at least 13 years old to use Via. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use Via only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms with you.
2. What Via is
Via gives you the daily Mass readings, the Saint of the Day, Scripture in several public-domain Catholic translations, AI-assisted reflection and answers (with Via Pro), and private invite-only communities.
3. Via is not spiritual direction, and not a professional service
This matters more than anything else in this document, so it is near the top.
Via is a study and prayer aid. It is not spiritual direction, not the sacrament of confession, not pastoral counselling, and not medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. It does not create a pastoral or professional relationship of any kind, and it is not a substitute for speaking to a priest.
Via is an independent app. It is not published by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the Holy See, any bishops' conference, any diocese, or any parish. Nothing in Via is an official statement of the teaching of the Catholic Church.
If you are in crisis or considering harming yourself, contact your local emergency services immediately. In the United States, call or text 988.
4. Answers are generated by AI and can be wrong
Via's reflections and answers are produced by artificial-intelligence models. They can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, and they can misstate Catholic teaching, even when they sound confident and cite a source.
Treat everything Via tells you as a starting point to be checked, not as an authority. Where a question matters — for your conscience, your family, or your soul — verify it against Scripture, the Catechism, and your pastor. You are responsible for what you do with what Via tells you.
5. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@viacatholic.app if you believe someone else has access to it. Do not create an account for anyone else, impersonate anyone, or share your account.
You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent.
6. Via Pro subscriptions
Via is free to use. Via Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's In-App Purchase.
- The price, the billing period, and the length of any free trial are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Manage or cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. We cannot cancel it for you.
- The annual plan includes a 7-day free trial for subscribers who have not used it before. Nothing is charged during the trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, it turns automatically into a paid annual subscription and your Apple Account is charged the price shown in the app.
- The trial is available once per Apple Account. If yours has already used it, the app shows the price without a trial before you buy.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are generally not able to issue refunds ourselves.
We may change subscription pricing. If we do, the change applies to periods that begin after we have given you notice, and never retroactively.
Via's AI features — asking Via a question, the daily reflection, and monthly reflections — require Via Pro. Without it, Via gives you the daily Mass readings, the Saint of the Day, Scripture, and communities, free and without limits. Via Pro use is subject to fair-use limits on how many requests an account can make, which we may adjust to keep the service running for everyone.
7. Communities: how to behave
Communities are private, invite-only spaces you create or join, and they require a permanent Via account — you cannot create one, join one, or post from an anonymous session. You are responsible for what you post. When you post, you must not:
- harass, threaten, demean, or abuse anyone;
- post sexual content, graphic violence, or anything unlawful;
- post content that is hateful toward any person or group, including on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity;
- share another person's private information without their permission;
- post spam, advertising, solicitations, or attempts to defraud;
- infringe anyone's copyright or other rights;
- misrepresent yourself as a priest, deacon, or religious, or as speaking for the Church;
- solicit money or donations from other members.
We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that break these rules. We do not pre-screen what members post, and we are not responsible for it, but we will act on reports sent to support@viacatholic.app.
8. Also not allowed
Do not reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with Via; do not use it through automated scripts or scrape it; do not try to get around rate limits, entitlement checks, or security controls; do not resell access; and do not attempt to make the AI produce content that violates section 7 or the policies of our AI providers.
9. Who owns what
Your content is yours. You keep ownership of what you write in Via. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit, and display it — but only as far as necessary to operate Via and deliver it to the communities you post it in. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other members have already received and reasonable backups that age out on their normal schedule.
Via is ours. The app, this website, the Via name, the logo, the design, the artwork, and the software are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use Via on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. No other rights are granted.
Scripture texts. Via uses Catholic Scripture editions in the public domain: the Douay–Rheims, the Catholic Public Domain Version, and the World English Bible, Catholic Edition. Liturgical calendar data is drawn from public sources. We claim no rights in the sacred texts themselves.
10. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Via and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue Via. If we discontinue Via, we will give reasonable notice, and we will refund any prepaid subscription period you cannot use. Sections 3, 4, 9, 11, 12, and 14 survive termination.
11. Disclaimers
Via is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that Via will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that its content — including AI-generated content and liturgical calendar data — will be accurate or complete.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. In those places, you have the rights your law gives you, and nothing here takes them away.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of Via.
Our total liability for all claims relating to Via is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
13. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not with Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Via or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Via. If Via fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if any; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Via. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to Via, including product liability claims, claims that Via fails to conform to a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar law. Apple is not responsible for investigating, defending, settling, or discharging any third-party claim that Via infringes intellectual property rights. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any US Government restricted-parties list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Tarrant County, Texas, and each of us waives any objection to venue there.
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, this section does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
Before filing anything, please write to support@viacatholic.app. Most problems are faster to solve that way.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and for material changes we will give you notice in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Via after that means you accept the new terms.
16. Everything else
If any provision here is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about Via.
